A meditation on endings.
The painting is built on many layers, and it's as much about the process, seeing what shapes that comes out when painting it, one step following another, and the next step isn't known until the previous one is taken.
The birds are one of my favourite themes. And in this one as in other paintings, they are a symbol of transformation and change.
The painting started out on a dark note, but quickly developed into something more lighthearted and even humorous, ending in a hopeful feeling.
